Surf with Us – the HOB 2019, Pipeline story.
Outside of the Surfing world, very little to none is know about the Pipeline Master competition, a few knows it actually refer to a Surfing contest. the HOB Surf with Us organize a little recap for those who Surf, and an introduction for all the other, of the most anticipated contest of Surfing.
The very first Pipe Masters event wasn’t exactly an affair to be remembered.
At the time, professional surfing didn’t have anything close to the fanfare we see today
Qt//It was 1971 when Fred Hemmings, the 1968 world champion, set a card table in the sand in front of the Banzai Pipeline. Continental Airlines put up a purse of $1000, a fortune for a surfing contest at the time. Hemmings was bent on showcasing surfing as something more than a derelict’s pastime, and convinced ABC to broadcast the event on the Wide World of Sports./ Alexander Haro for the Inertia,… here!

Tom Carrol – Line and Fear
Qt/The minute Tom put that helmet on, things changed for him. His head was the only part of his body that was not injured and he figured if his head is safe, then the rest of him would be okay, too. the ‘Pipe’ Masters.
the Pipe Masters (without branding) is the most anticipated contest in the Surf community. It celebrate what Surfing offer’s best, crystal blue water, pipe shapes waves, a natural set-up which put spectators and surfers in a living room like relationship, and of course, danger. the wave has killed more than any other, making it a challenge, from 9ft to 20ft, the secret is hold beneath, Pipeline Reef is the reason of its beauty, and Surfer’s demises. Gerry Lopez joking about grabbing the reef waiting for the set to pass in its early Pipe years, in truth what other choice, but the show prevail, and the wave deliver each year in an events tagged ‘the Billabong Pipe Masters’.
Qt/ The Billabong Pipe Masters is the most charged event of the year as the season conclusion to the World Surf League elite tour. It determines the most anticipated and highest regarded titles known to professional surfing: The World Champion, Vans Triple Crown Champion and Billabong Pipe Masters event winner, and it all ensues at Mecca – the North Shore of Oahu and Banzai Pipeline.
